In "run services.msc" what are safe non-microsoft services to change from automatic to manual.
I am trying to reduce the number of services that are active to improve performance. Or is there a list of "DON'T CHANGE!" services?1 person needs an answerI do too

Greetings, Windows XP offers a lot of services; many of them are unnessary and take up precious system resources. Here's a list of service that would be helpful to disable (as long as it's not a service for a program you use!): Alerter, Clipbook, Computer Browser, Distributed Link Tracking Client, Indexing Service, IPSEC Services, Messenger, Netmeeting Remote Desktop Sharing, Portable Media Serial Number, Remote Desktop Help Session Manager, Remote Procedure Call Locator, Remote Registry, Routing & Remote Access, Server, SSDP Discovery Service, Telnet, TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper, Upload Manager, Universal Plug and Play Device Host, Wireless Zero Configuration (Do not disable if you use a wireless network). It's easy to disable these services. Just go to Start -> Run... and type services.msc. Double-click on the service you want to change, set the startup type to Disabled. Click the Stop button to stop the service immediately, then click OK. Repeat for each service to be disabled. If you decide you want to re-enable a service you disabled just go to Start -> Run... and type services.msc. Double-click on the service you want to change, set the startup type to Automatic and click OK. You should notice your machine running faster immediately. Barbara
